We love our Vancouver Pet Parents! Gretchen and Kevin are the best, our pup is very excited for his adventures. Their adventures are a great way for our pup to socialize with other dogs in a safe space. We love that we get live updates when they're out, with pictures and videos. We love that they visit different locations each time. We also appreciate the spa towel service after the adventures! Highly recommend their services!

Gretchen and Kevin are THE best! We’ve been working with them since our pup was just a few months old. Not only does my pup have so much fun on every adventure, but Gretchen and Kevin help to reinforce our training on re-call and on-leash walks too! I can’t say enough good things about Gretchen and Kevin. If you’re looking for dog walkers who are attentive, communicative and responsible, I highly recommend Vancouver Pet Parents!!

I was very happy to find Gretchen and Kevin when I moved to the River District area! They are both true dog lovers and take amazing care of my pup like their own. Cowboy (my dog) started off with half an hour solo walks with Gretchen and Kevin - he had some leash reactivity that they were helping us with and now with him being fully trained and a little bit older, he is able to go on adventures with the other dogs! He loves the doodles :) They also send pictures/updates on Cowboy and that just lets me know he's in good hands. Cowboy gets so excited whenever they come to pick him up because he loves Gretchen and Kevin, but he knows he's going to have a day of playing with his friends! So happy I found them and thankful that they love/care for Cowboy just as much as I do. They also have the best recap stories on their Instagram!

The Best Dog Walkers in Vancouver

We might be a little biased, but the reviews on this page seem to agree.

Hi, we're Kevin and Gretchen, aka Vancouver Pet Parents. We are licensed, bonded, and insured by PROfur. We are also Pet First Aid Certified by Walks 'N' Wags.

We're dog "pawrents" as well as dog walkers in Vancouver (we have a Bernedoodle - @dinosaur_the_doodle on Instagram). We've trained him to walk loose-leash, come whenever he's called (even when chasing squirrels), "drop it, leave it, and wait," not to beg for food at the table, and a few party tricks like "crawl," "bang!" and "high five!"

Our dog, Dinosaur, is also up to date on all his shots and super gentle with puppies (and cats) of any size - he'll be sure to give them the socialization they need!

We provide a dog walking service that we, as Doodle owners, would want ourselves.

We're not dog trainers, but we know how important consistency is when training a dog, so we continue to work with them on anything you are working on, while they are with us on adventures!

Services offered in Vancouver (contact us directly to see if we service your neighbourhood):

  • Drop-in visits (River District only)
    • This is perfect for puppies, senior dogs, and cats. This service is also available in the evenings and on weekends. $55 per visit.
    • What's included:
      • A bathroom break and short walk.
      • We feed them their food if they need to be fed.
      • We make sure they have a fresh bowl of water.
      • We can administer any medications needed.
      • For cats: we can feed them and clean/change their litter box if needed.
      • We clean up any accidents that might happen while you're away.
      • We can even bring in your mail or any packages, and water your plants.
      • Lots of text and picture updates to keep you updated, to give you that peace of mind!

  • Solo neighbourhood dog walk (River District only):
    • If you are working on loose-leash training, ignoring distractions, or even just getting your dog more comfortable with walking on a leash, we will definitely continue any training you are doing with your dog on our walks. $65 for a private 30 minute training walk.

  • One hour group dog adventure (River District only):
    • Maximum of five dogs in a pack between the two of us, so that your dogs get the attention they deserve. $55 per adventure.
    • What's included:
      • Pickup and drop-off, right from your front door.
      • An off-leash adventure at dog park, trail, or beach. We can throw a ball for them, they can chase the other dogs around, or they can take a leisurely stroll beside us, whichever they prefer. The time we're out varies and depends on where we go that day, but they are all running around for at least an hour.
      • We work on recall and any other specific training goals you have for your dogs.
      • We also have a specific process for testing your dog's recall and building that bond with them before we let them adventure off-leash.
      • We interfere when play between dogs is inappropriate and do not tolerate nuisance barking.
      • Your dogs are taught how to socialize properly with other well-behaved dogs, in a much smaller group setting.
      • We tire your dogs out mentally as well as physically, so that they are tired and happy when they come home.
      • We provide you with lots of text and picture updates while we're out, so that you feel like you're with us on our adventures and feature your dog on our Instagram account (@vancouverpetparents) at the end of the day.
      • A bath can also be arranged for an additional $45 if they're super dirty and muddy afterwards (we've got your back Doodle owners).
    •   We're only accepting new clients that live in the River District for the one hour adventure days.

  • 2+ hour group dog adventure:
    • Maximum of five dogs in a pack between the two of us, so that your dogs get the attention they deserve. $95 per adventure.
    • What's included:
      • Pickup and drop-off, right from your front door.
      • An off-leash and/or on-leash adventure that is two hours or more, depending on what we do that day (we like to switch it up so your dogs don't get bored). In the summer, this is more likely to be a long hike on the North Shore, so the time we're out totally varies, but they'll be running around/walking and exploring for at least two hours.
      • On all our dog walks, we work on recall and any other specific training goals you have for your dogs.
      • We also have a specific process for testing your dog's recall and building that bond with them before we let them adventure off-leash.
      • We interfere when play between dogs is inappropriate and do not tolerate nuisance barking.
      • Your dogs are taught how to socialize properly with other dogs.
      • A bath can also be arranged for an additional $45 (usually done at Tisols or Bosleys) if they're super dirty and muddy afterwards (we've got your back Doodle owners).
    • Our longer adventure days are currently full, but contact us to be placed on a waitlist.

  • Pupcakes ($5 per cupcake, $25 per 10 inch bone-shaped cake)
    • We make dog cakes from scratch (these are made to order). Our pupcakes are made out of natural ingredients that are completely safe for your dog to consume.

  • Recall treats ($5 a bag)
    • Our special "recall treats" that are homemade, and made with human-grade food. A mixture of chicken and veggies, or beef and veggies. Our doggie clients always come racing back to us when they know we have these on hand.

How it works:

  • Reach out and set up a free initial consultation with us: we can chat in more detail, meet both you and your dog, assess your dog and their/your needs, and chat what you are looking for in a dog walker in Vancouver (note: we are currently only taking on new clients in River District, but can make exceptions if you are willing to be put on a waitlist and don't need to be put on a regular dog walking schedule).

  • Depending on what service you've picked, we always do a trial day to ensure your dog gets along with the pack of the day and that they'd be a good fit for our VIP (very important pets) crew. Because we do take up to four dogs at any one time, we cannot accept any aggressive or reactive dogs with behavioural issues on our group adventures.

  • Once you're part of the pack, you can either be on a set regular walk and/or daycare schedule, or choose to use our services sporadically - we're pretty flexible. Priority obviously goes to our clients that are on a set schedule.

  • We pick your dog up, go out on our adventure of the day, take a lot of pictures and videos to keep you updated (IG: @vancouverpetparents), and return a tired and happy dog to you (high-energy Doodles are our specialty). Your dog might even be "hungover" the next day.

Pick-up and drop-off services included. You don't have to find time in your busy schedule to drop them off or pick them up. We can also take a set of keys, so you don't even have to worry about being around during pick-up and drop-off.

We take a maximum of four dogs in a group, to ensure that your pets get the attention they deserve. Your dog's safety is our top priority. We will also never let them off-leash without your consent, and until we are comfortable enough with their recall.

We also continue to work on anything and everything you're working on with your pup, training wise. We understand how important consistency is in your dog's training. Most of our clients have been with us since they were young puppies, so we've helped train and raise them into the well-behaved dogs they are today. We're not dog trainers though, so are unable to accept any dogs with behavioural or aggression issues - we do have a shortlist of dog trainers in the area we work with, so reach out if you'd like a referral.

A suitable plan is customized for your pup, which factors in their age and exercise needs. They are then placed in the appropriate pack, providing that they pass the initial trial day.

A tired and happy dog is returned to you - that's our guarantee. We're not your traditional doggy daycare and can promise they won't come home smelling like pee. Mud is a different story, but just leave us a towel by your front door, and we can do a thorough wipe down before they come back inside. We can also give your pups a bath after our adventure (for an additional $45), so you can have a clean and good smelling pup to cuddle with on the couch.
